Trojan War Essay, Research Paper

EPISODE 1

Oh how I wish I were home. I miss my wife Penelope deeply. The Trojan War is finally over after 10 long years of lonesome battle. Praise Zeus for his ending of the war. A lot of my men are lost. They died a painful death. We buried our dead today and made a cairn for remembrance. Six benches, six lonely oars are empty. This is one of the many heart-breaking scenes I’ve seen. Now those lonely spirits for a journey uplift me back to my homeland. But I solemnly vow to relay the heroics of those men who died to save the queen.

EPISODE 2

As we sailed from Troy there were favorable currents that carried us to the open sea. Days on end we drifted. The winds like a game of tug a war between the gods. Northern winds drove us past Cithara to a strange Island filled with ridiculous men who strive to eat the Lotus blossom. This strange flower of enchantments warps the minds of the consumer whom may never stop eating. All visions of loved ones and home are driven form their minds. Upon reaching this isle three of my best men went in search of water. They were offered lotus as a gift and obliging the kind people they ate in drift of swallows the vision of wife and home were sent down. I became worried about my men after the 1st night when they didn’t return. Therefore I went in search of my heroic trio. Upon finding them eating the lotus I was offered some. Declining I grabbed them and forced them to the ship. I strapped them to their benches and set sail. I could of used their help because three days late r we caught storms that lasted a day for each of the lotus-eaters on board. On the third day the sun shone with the glory of Greece.

EPISODE 3

We sailed on and found our selves in reach of an island. We then set course for its shores and upon stepping afoot on land we set out for food. All of us found a cave where cheese was plenty. We sat and ate and drank our wine. Sheep started entering. Then a giant man with one eye walked in a moved a giant stone in front of the door. He turned and was startled to see us but pleased. He asked what were we doing and why were we eating his cheese? We replied we are humble sailors lost and hungry. We brought gifts for our host. He swooped down and grabbed a man and ate him. We watched in horror. Then we said here try this its called wine. He drank heavily and fell asleep half drunk. We decided that our host wasn’t as humble as we hopped. With a sharp stick we walked up on a ledge and stabbed his eye. This blinded him. He ran to the stone and opened it the next morning letting his sheep out and wee escaped among their bellys.we race to our ship and boarded and rowed for our life. We barely missed being struck by a rock. When we were out of range I yelled hey I am Odysseus sacker of cities and conqueror of Troy. Well this was a mistake on my part I new it would be.

EPISODE 3

On my goddess Athena’s word I now ventured for the land of the dead. As we made our way through the river of fire we noted that it was a hell. The lava was pouring and we were hot and scared. We moored our ship by the hall of death. I told my men that if I don’t return to sail for home. Reluctantly they agreed. I jump off the ship and walked with my offering of a young sheep. I walked into the middle of the hall as spirits surrounded me. I kept them back and I sliced the lamb’s neck and drained the blood into a pot. I kept them all back with my sword. I noticed my mother standing there but I kept her back to with a broken heart. I asked for the great prophet. He came forth and took a sip of the blood and then said, you are going to go through a series of hurtle before you reach Ithaca. I am going to tell you only one. You will go through a cave; on one side is a six-headed beast that will take six of your men. On the other is a giant whirlpool that will suck up your ship and kill everyone. These are you choices. If it were I id loose six of my men. He took another long gulp and stepped back. I motioned for my mother to come. She said that she couldn’t wait for me so she took her life. Penelope was waiting for my return. I let her have the blood. We left.

EPISODE 4

I set sail for Circe’s Island. She set my course for us. We went forth to a straight ware sirens were singing to lure us to our doom. I told them to bind me to the mast facing them. I then walked up and down laying beeswax heavy on their ears. Before the last person was protected I told them to tighten my binding ropes if I squirm to be freed. And don’t free me no matter what. Like true men they heed my words and did just that. We sailed and rowed on. Upon reaching the middle I heard the loveliest voices. They sang to me about my battles at Troy and told me to come and they will show me the most splendid site. I yelled let me go let me go! But my men just simply got up and tied me tighter and sat back down nod rowed. We rowed on out of hearing distance. I gave them the signal and they untied me and took the wax off. We made it!

EPISODE 5

We sailed for days. We reached the straights of Scylla and Carbides. I was scared. All I told my men was that on one side the monster and on the other is the whirlpool. So I told them to stay in the middle. I didn’t think it was wise to tell them that six of their comrades would die. We sailed din the middle as best we could. All the sudden their was a whoosh and a man was gone in a spray of blood. Then five more sudden whooshes and all six were gone. The men were scared and didn’t row so I had to force them. They ended up rowing as fast as they could. Then all of the sudden the whirlpool opened up. Now I could see what horror waited for us on that side. I was scared. My men and I mourned the lose of our friends.

EPISODE 6

In the early morning we saw birds. We were happy cause that meant land was near. And it was about 8 nautical miles ahead. We sailed for it now hungry correction starving. We set foot on land and raced around looking for food. We found cattle but I was warned about this and ordered my men to not touch it. They did but not willingly. I set of to make offerings to Athena. I fell asleep. When I woke up I had a strange feeling. I ran down to the boat and there was a big cow roasting on the pit. I yelled you betrayed me you idiots you killed us. I know was on the bad side of the sun god. Well what could I do? We set sail as fast as we could. Everything was fine but the sun god talked Zeus into revenge. The Boat was struck with a white-hot lightning bolt. Our boat was blown to bits. Everyone drowned except for me. I lashed mast and board together and drifted for nine days. I was lucky to pass by Carbides again. I paddled hard to get by. I landed on Calypso’s island.

EPISODE 7

I was sent from Calypso to my homeland. Upon reaching it I found out that there was an army of suitors in my palace. I went to my old swineherd who I knew was still faithful to me. I there found my son who did not recognize me. He was complaining about how these suitors were eating him out of house and home. All of his food and wine were eaten. It was his palace till his father’s return. I just stood there as an old beggar. Then out of know where Athena appeared to me. She took me outside and out of view. She said that your son is still faithful and he wants to get rid of the suitors in the palace. Well then Lets change you. Athena’s wonderful charm put me in new white robes and made me young again. I reentered the house. My son amazed that a man could change into a handsome man believed me to be a god. I told him no I am your father. He didn’t believe me totally.
