«Come this way, if you please.» – можуть набувати ще іллокутивної сили іронії, що нашаровується на основне значення, при цьому велику роль відіграє інтонація, з якою промовляється вигук. Підкреслимо ще раз, що загальне, основне значення вигуку є його об’єднувальним значенням щодо всіх його варіантів. Наприклад:
The one afternoon, walking home from the market and carrying, if you please, a fine live hen, I saw her talking with a man there in the shade by the cathedral…, а також попередження, часто з відтінком загрози. Наприклад:
«Meaning you have been known to act rashly, Sirius, which is why Dumbledore keeps reminding you to stay at home and –»
«We'll leave my instructions from Dumbledore out of this, if you please!» said Sirius loudly.;
«I have a kid sister that's only in the goddam fourth grade. You're about as good as she is, and she can dance better than anybody living or dead.»
«Watch your language if you don't mind.».
Вигукові висловлення God knows і по doubt у різних ситуаціях спілкування мають іллокутивну силу впевненості, категоричності. Наприклад:
«Good Lord. It must be worth a fortune.»
«No doubt.» He spoke without looking at me.
«I see that you have had some great trouble,» responded Holmes.
«God knows I have!…». Однак в деяких ситуаціях вони набувають протилежного значення, а саме невпевненості. Наприклад:
«How will you spend your time?»…
«God knows… I have a ghost of a notion I might try a novel.», припущення. Наприклад: No doubt you’ll be at the party tonight. У таких випадках вирішальне значення має не тільки смисл наступного висловлення, але й інтонація, з якою промовляються ці вигуки.
Вигукове висловлення very well зa категоричністю варіює своє значення. Hаприклад: All of the examiners looked around to watch its progress and when it dissolved into silver mist Professor Tofty clapped his veined and knotted hands enthusiastically.
«Excellent!» he said. «Very well, Potter, you may go!», де воно має іллокутивну силу згоди, схвалення. В інших випадках воно набуває прагматичного значення вимушеної згоди. Наприклад:
«I want to know what's been going on,» Harry said at once.
He did not look at Mrs Weasley. He had been touched by what she had said about his being as good as a son, but he was also impatient with her mollycoddling. Sirius was right, he was not a child.
«Very well,» said Mrs Weasley, her voice cracking. «Ginny – Ron – Hermione – Fred – George – I want you out of this kitchen, now.»; a іноді має значення морської команди:

«’Pon my word, Watson, you are coming along wonderfully.» – в певних ситуаціях спілкування набуває іллокутивної сили вираження різних почуттів й переживань, як-от: подиву, захоплення, досади тощо. Наприклад:
«Doesn't anybody in the whole house know where my coat is? I never came across such a set in all my life – upon my word I didn't. Six of you! – and you can't find a coat that I put down not five minutes ago!».
Вигук Why з іллокутивною силою вираження різних емоцій і станів людини може варіювати, виражаючи:
1) здивування:
«Yeah, it was OK,» chuckled Dean. «Better than Seamus's, anyway, he was just telling me.»
» Why, what happened, Seamus?»;
2) глузування:
«Using defensive spells?» Professor Umbridge repeated with a little laugh. «Why, I can't imagine any situation arising in my classroom that would require you to use a defensive spell, Miss Granger. You surely aren't expecting to be attacked during class?»;
3) нетерпіння, роздратування:
«Why, our boat’s gone off!» they replied in an indignant tone.;
4) невпевненість, нерішучість, збентеження:
«Why, the Alahambra would be almost more lively,» said Harris, venturing his head outside the cover for a moment and taking a survey of the sky.;

Не всі перелічені вторинні прагматичні значення вигуку why словники фіксують, але, як показує аналіз його в художніх творах, в мовленні всі ці значення присутні і функціонують. Підкреслимо ще раз, в утворенні вторинних прагматичних значень відіграють значну роль невербальні засоби.
Прагматичне варіювання вигукових висловлень часто пов'язане з їхнім позиційним варіюванням. Так, наприклад, вигуки now, now then передують, як правило, висловленням, що виражають питання, пропозицію, прохання. Наприклад, у діалозі «That's right, that's right, girl!» said Umbridge, seizing Hermione by the shoulders, thrusting her into the abandoned chintz chair and leaning over her. «Now then… with whom was Potter communicating just now?» – вигук стоїть перед питанням, «Now, would you have the kindness to go into your room, and to bar your shutters» – вигук передує проханню; він може стояти перед висловленням, що виражає протест, докір, попередження: «Now, you two had better listen closely. I do not care what provocation Malfoy offered you, I do not care if he insulted every family member you possess, your behaviour was disgusting and I am giving each of you a week's worth of detentions!…». Але після категоричного викладення думки чи наміру, як правило, стоїть у постпозиції. Наприклад: The class was quiet as it entered the room; Professor Umbridge was, as yet, an unknown quantity and nobody knew how strict a disciplinarian she was likely to be.
«Well, good afternoon!» she said, when finally the whole class had sat down.
A few people mumbled «good afternoon» in reply.
«Tut, tut,» said Professor Umbridge. «That won't do, now. I should like you, please, to reply «Good afternoon, Professor Umbridge». Крім того, вигукове висловлення now then може виконувати функцію заповнювача пауз. Наприклад: «Now then, Mr Cocksure,» said the salesman, «I thought that I was out of geese, but before I finish you’ll find that there is still one left in my shop. You see this little book?».
Як заповнювач пауз вживається також вигукове висловлення You know:
«Yeah…» said Sirius, frowning. «You know, I think that's the last time I saw him, too… he must be hiding upstairs somewhere.», яке виконує й інші функції в організації висловлення, а саме: акцентує увагу на якомусь факті, вказує на нову інформацію. Наприклад: «Dumbledore thinks very highly of you, you know,» he said comfortably. «Oh yes. Holds you in great esteem.»; підкреслює думку мовця: «You know, Minister, I disagree with Dumbledore on many counts… but you cannot deny he's got style…»; виражає незгоду: There was a long silence, broken by Lockharts angry voice.
«Look, I didn't learn joined-up writing for nothing, you know!»; вносить уточнення: «It's two weeks till full moon,» Mr Weasley reminded her quietly. «They've been talking to him this morning, the Healers, you know, trying to persuade him he'll be able to lead an almost normal life…»; підкреслює вибачення: «I am sorry not to have been more help,» said Nick gently «Well… well, do excuse me… the feast, you know…».
У різних ситуаціях спілкування вживаються вигукові висловлення, що мають здатність до прагматичного варіювання, наприклад, There you are. Це висловлення може супроводжувати передачу, вручення чогось адресатові: «Well, there you are,» she said, handing him his timetable, «if you follow that you should do fine.»; супроводжувати якусь дію, здійснення чогось:
«Ah, the bally idiot!» you hear him mutter to himself…, then you both indignantly exclaim, in the same breath:
«There you are! what did I tell you?», а також успішне виконання дії:
«There you are,» he would say, stepping heavily off the chair on to the charwoman’s corns, and surveying the mess he had made with evident pride. «Why, some people would have a man in to do a little thing like that!».
Прагматичне варіювання властиве багатьом вигуковим висловленням – одиницям мовленнєвого етикету. Воно може бути пов'язане з транспонуванням їхньої іллокутивної сили в іншу групу одиниць мовленнєвого етикету. Так, вигук Cheers може мати іллокутивну силу:
1) тосту: «Well, Dad – cheers for the birthday»;
2) подяки: Harry crossed to the dishwasher, took out a clean glass and filled it with water at the sink…
«Cheers,» said Moody, when Harry handed him the glass., в тому числі іронічної: «Fair point, little bro,» said Fred, scanning the column. «You can have a bit of Nosebleed Nougat cheap if you like.»
«Why's it cheap?» said Ron suspiciously.
«Because you'll keep bleeding till you shrivel up, we haven't got an antidote yet,» said George, helping himself to a kipper.

«Hi, Harry» he panted. «Hi, Ginny… everywhere's full… 1 can't find a seat…» і прощання: She began to go downstairs, but she called back. «You have a girl-friend you'd like to bring?»

Іллокутивна сила вигукових висловлень excuse me, beg pardon, I beg your pardon і pardon me є ввічливе вибачення, наприклад: When he spread more than a pint of water over one of those dresses, he would give a pleasant little laugh, and say:
«I beg your pardon, I’m sure;» and offer them his handkerchief to wipe it off with. Але вони можуть транспонуватися в сферу одиниць, що використовуються для організації спілкування, а саме привертання уваги, встановлення мовленнєвого контакту: The captain came over to the table and whispered in Jennifer’s ear. «Excuse me, Miss Parker, there’s a telephone call for you.», а також для його розмикання: Jennifer was in the midst of a conversation with two Swiss bankers when a wave of dizziness engulfed her.

Вигук Thank you, крім іллокутивної сили подяки:
