Locke s father was a Puritan lawyer who fought for Cromwell in the English Civil War. Locke was trained to sobriety, industry, and endeavor and made to love simplicity and to hate excessive ornament and display. Early in Locke s life, he learnt the meaning of political liberty. He would hear his father expound the doctrine of the rightful sovernity of the broadened changed his outlook, but there can be no doubt that his fundamental attitude of life was determine for him. John Locke believed that revolution could be justified if government failed to serve their citizens but that people are willing to bear serve hardships before they restort to revolution. The Declaration of Independence is in effect a public justification for revolution against an abusive monarch.
