College
It was my senior year in high school when I realized that I had to make a decision. The decision whether to attend a two-year community college, a four-year university, or just get a job. I had to decide what I wanted to do. I was so overwhelmed that it made me les motivated to even go. I knew that I had to go to college when I found out that my job would reimburse the amount of money for my tuition. I had to work at least twenty-two hours per week and maintain a ?C? average. I looked for the two main colleges that I was interested in were Metro Community College (MCC) and Iowa Western Community College (IWCC). IWCC had a better program for the field that I chose, which was Computer Aided Drafting (CAD). I attended IWCC for three semesters and the program director left and I thought that the program was falling apart. I didn?t register for fall classes.
My Dreams of being successful and my parent?s badgering helped me realize that education is important. IWCC never worked out so I went with my backup plan, which was to attend MCC. I lost motivation and I ended up dropping my classes after a couple weeks. For the five weeks I was out of school I caught so much grief from my parent?s for being lazy. All I was doing was working. There?s nothing wrong with working but I was ashamed of my self and made sure that I signed up for classed for the winter quarter. It would be a waste of my aide to education. All I really have to pay for is fees and books and keep a ?C? average and that?s easy. Some people go from high school straight to a university and drop out forever and get sucked into some low paying management job. I think that it would be a lot easier so that is why I chose MCC. The classes are smaller and the tuition is more affordable. The CAD program is better at MCC. I signed up and attended classes for a while and dropped out again. I was really confused about what I was going to do in my future. It gave me a chance to think about my major and decide what to do. I signed up for winter quarter and I really figured out why I need to get my degree, to get a better paying job.
I have come to realize that to make a good amount of money in the future I have to have some sort of degree. My insurance company requires that I am enrolled as a full time student to receive health and dental insurance. The aide to education really helps and I also receive a discount on my car insurance. This saves me money because I am unable to work full time and school comes first. These are reasons why I must attend school and graduate to get more money. After this quarter I plan to finish out my drafting degree
After I complete my associates? degree in CAD from Metro I hope to attend a four-year university to work on becoming a mechanical engineer. It is going to take a lot of hard work and time to make it that far. I would like to attend University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO). It has the best program for what I would like to become. The science and engineering department was recently rebuilt and all new equipment was bought. It has a good reputation for being a prestige school. Some day in the future I will get my Bachelors degree and work for hard for a mid sized firm and be very successful at what I do.
The most important thing right now in my life is to attend college and prepare myself to work hard for the rest of my life. It is essential to get a degree if you plan on succeeding at what you do.
