Why do people Get Cosmetic Surgery?
It might be giving you a sense of uniqueness or even adds character to your whole physical appearance, but what if you just can t stand it? What if you have a physical attribute that just drives you mad? Well, you re certainly not alone. According to the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, thousands of people in all age groups, from children to seniors perform cosmetic surgery each year. Between 1992 and 1998 alone, the number of cosmetic surgery procedures held in the U.S increased by more than 150 per cent. People tend to choose performing cosmetic surgery mainly to enhance their physical, medical and mental state.
Aesthetic surgery is surgery that is concerned with improving a person s physical beauty. It is the number one reason why people perform cosmetic or plastic surgeries. Some examples of aesthetic surgeries are abdominal etching, breast augmentation, chin or cheek augmentation, corona lift, eyelid lift, laser refacing, mastoplexy, otoplasty, scar revision, vein stripping, W and Z plasty (surgical procedures used to lengthen scar tissue along the normal pattern and form of the skin. The result is to make the scar less noticeable). The most common type of surgery performed all over N.A is liposuction. This procedure is designed to remove excess fat from specific areas of the body through a cannula by means of suction. Liposuction is the most common procedure among both women and men. Breast enlargement comes in second, followed by eyelid surgery, and then face lifts. Rhinoplasty, on the other hand is the most popular cosmetic procedure among people age 18 or younger. Rhino refers to the nose. Rhinoplasty is surgery made to change your nose s shape or size.
Another reason why people perform cosmetic or plastic surgery is to refine their medical condition. Laser- assisted in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) and radial keratotomy, also known as RK, are very good examples of such cases. LASIK is a laser and scalpel surgical treatment that improves or cures extreme near-sightedness and astigmatism. RK is a laser and scalpel surgical treatment that flattens the cornea to improve near- sightedness. Some cosmetic procedure candidates have no choice on whether to carry on with the process or not, instead, they are obligated to do so because of their critical or severe medical infirmity. Some people have difficulty breathing on account of their rhino bone structure. Other people experience severe pain and deformation of their teeth alignment when their wisdom teeth start growing out. This occurs because of the lack of space remaining in ones jaw. In such cases the patient needs to perform a surgical procedure to remove these late blooming teeth.
Branching out from both physical and medical reasons is the mental purpose that lies behind all these cosmetic surgeries. Physical appearance seems to have substantial impact on ones mental health. Usually when people are more relaxed and confident about the way they tend to be more outgoing and deal with social challenges with less difficulty than people who are uncomfortable or unsure of themselves physically. Feeling good about the way you look is much more than just a superficial vanity. Now that may not be apparent in every single individual. Surely there are the exceptions, but it seems as though the majority finds it to be true. I myself know for a fact that if I stand in front of the class and try to enact an oral presentation, while I m wearing sloppy clothes and having a horrible hair day, I won t be doing half as good as a job as opposing to when they don t.
Yet, realistic expectations are of great importance. You should always know that an appearance-enhancing procedure may boost your self-confidence but most likely will not drastically change your life. If you think breast surgery will make your wayward boyfriend stop cheating, help you get your dream job, or turn you into a supermodel then you are bound to feel disappointed with the outcome.
There are many reasons why people choose to perform cosmetic surgery, but they basically fall under three general points which are improving their aesthetic, medical, and mental state. As long as your goals are set, your expectations are realistic, and you re 100 per cent about having the procedure then you ll most probably going to be pleased with the outcome. Candidates should always remember that the procedure may provide an improvement but will not result in perfection .
