Abortion: legal or illegal? + Do you know that at 18 days after conception, a fetus starts to have a heartbeat?+ Do you know that after 9 weeks, an unborn child can feel pain?+ And do you know that for every 20 seconds, one unborn child has died by abortion?Abortion is a very controversial issue that has been continually argued over for the past few years and this issue isn t going to settle anytime soon. The main controversies are: is abortion murder and should abortion be legalized? Before going to any further discussion, let answer the question: what is abortion? Abortion by definition is the destruction of the fetus or unborn child while the child is still in the mother womb. Abortion has been legalized in America since 1973 and up until now, approximately 40 millions unborn babies have been killed by abortion!!! Statistic shows America kills more human lives each year than she has lost in 200 years of wars all combined. It is now time for us to stop and think. Our legal system has many laws prohibiting the taking of human life, then why it is aright to take away an innocent unborn baby s life? We can no longer ignore the scientific evidences that life begins at the moment of conception. It is scientific and medical evidence fact based on experimental evidences, that a fetus is a living, growing, thriving human being directing his or her own development (Fetal Development). Many people who are pro-abortion justify their beliefs through the concept that a fetus is only a blob of tissue until it is born. But a fetus is not simply a blob of tissue , rather than a fetus is Latin for offspring or young one . At a US Senate Judiciary Subcommittee meeting, most scientists said that life begins at conception or implantation of the embryo. No scientists at the meeting claimed that life begins at birth (Factbot). Therefore, abortion is not as simple as removing a blob of tissue but rather the destruction, dismembering and killing of a human life- an innocent unborn baby. There are scientific evidences and facts prove that fetus is a person, a human and functions separately from the mother. Babies in the womb hiccup, cry, play, and learn . A fetus is a real human being deserves all the rights that among these are: life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness (Thomas Jefferson). Therefore, all unborn babies have the right to life, freedom and equal protection under the Constitution. No other person has the right to take away the unborn child s life, no matter what the situation is.Many people who are pro-abortion probably don t know that at 9 weeks after conception, the unborn baby actually can feel pain (fact reported from The US Department of Health and Human Services). The fetus is alive and can feel all the pain put on it by the painful abortion procedures. Abortionist doctor admits that seeing the abortion of the baby on the ultra sound bothered me more than anything else. The staff couldn t take it. Women were never allowed to see the ultra sound (Factbot). Have any of you here ever known or actually seen how the abortionist abort a child? The procedures are painful! The abortionist uses an ultra sound, grabs the baby s legs with forceps and pulls them out into the birth canal. The abortionist then delivers the entire baby except for the head and continues by jamming scissors into the baby s skull. The scissors are opened to enlarge the hole. The scissors are removed and a suction is inserted. The baby s brains are sucked out causing the skull to collapse. The dead baby is then removed (Partial). Have any of you ever experienced this kind of pain in your life? I believe not. When you go to a hospital to have either a minor or a major surgery, the doctor will give you anesthetic medicine to make sure that you will not have to endure the pain. If we have never had to endure the pain, then why we let an innocent unborn baby endures suffering by the painful abortion procedures? Is it right to abort a child, to let a child endure the pain?
I am personally opposed to abortion. I think we should not allow abortion in any circumstances. Many pro-abortionists believe that it is a woman s right to do what she wants with herself and what she has created and no one should interfere that right. But isn t it selfish to kill a person simply just because you want to? Isn t it selfish to sacrifice a life to make one s own life better? Many women having abortion excuse that they can t afford a baby; others say a baby would interfere with their career, education and personal freedom. I think that is too selfish! Once a woman chooses to have sex, she is taking a chance. This she does of her own will, and she has control over what she is doing. If a person decides to have a sex whether it is a safe sex or not, what happens after that is her responsibility. And if she is going to participate in this risky and unsafe practice, then she must be ready to pay the consequences! A woman can t have any kind of excuses to abort her own child!Many people think that abortion should be allowed in case of rape or incest. In case of rape, yes, it is right that a woman did not ask for it, and does not deserve it. She should not then have to deal with the child if she does not want to. But will an abortion help her in this case? Many evidences prove that not only does the abortion not alleviate the trauma of the rape, but also it brings a trauma of its own. Jackie Barker, a rape victim states: I soon discovered that the aftermath of my abortion continued a long time after the memory of my rape had faded. I felt empty and horrible. An abortion obviously is not a good solution in rape case at all. Once a woman got raped and made pregnant, the issue now is not how the pregnancy was initiated but how to deal with a person within a womb. Would anyone argue that it is moral to kill a newborn baby simply because it was conceived through rape or incest? Of course not! The baby was not responsible for the manner of its conception. Therefore, we can t take the life of the innocent baby.What about the mother s life is in danger if she continues carrying the baby? In such case, the decision has to be made as to which life would be saved? Is it morally right to take the life of the baby to save the life of the mother? No! The fetus, being a person, has a right to life! Of course the mother is a person, has a right to life too but when it comes to such situation, we would want to save the life of the child more. Let says if one happens upon two persons, a kid and an adult, who are struggling in the water beside a capsized boat, and he can rescue only one of them, whom would he save? Would he save the kid or the adult? When it comes to a situation like that, people normally will save the life of the younger kid. Therefore, taking a child s life in this case, just like any other cases, is not right either.Abortion concerns all of us. There are many social problems (single motherhood, financial destitution, child neglect, urban overcrowding ) that do not have an easy solution; however, abortion is not a good solution to those problems either. Abortion is murder of an innocent child! It is wrong to do abortion in any circumstances. America needs to open her ears to the silent screams of the 1.6 million unborn babies murdered each year!
