Обычно, однажды появившись и распространившись, вирус гриппа обоснуется среди людей и циркулирует в течение многих лет. Центр США по контролю заболеваний и ВОЗ осуществляют обширные программы мониторинга случаев заболевания гриппом по всему миру, включая появление потенциально пандемичных штаммов вируса гриппа (64).
