ANNOTATION

Kucheryava O.A. Discourse Competence Development of Philological Faculty Students in Higher Education Establishments. – A manuscript.

The thesis aimed at obtaining a candidate degree in pedagogical sciences in speciality 13.00.02. – Theory and Methods of Teaching (the Ukrainian Language). – South-Ukrainian state pedagogical university named after K. D. Ushinskiy, Odessa, 2008.

The dissertation is devoted to the problem of the discourse competence development in the domain of students’ writing competence of the pedagogical faculties of higher educational establishments; experimental methods the contents of which have agreed to the three stages of the linguistic and didactic model: cognitive and enriching, operative and analytical, communicative and investigative have been scientifically grounded and approved; a system of exercises aimed at forming skills that contribute to the discourse competence basis, schemes of the full and partial discourse analysis of the text have been offered; the integrity of methods and devices of work and organizing forms have been specified; pedagogical conditions that provide effective process of the discourse competence development in the domain of writing communication have been defined; the criteria (terminological basis knowledge of the discourse study, intensity, ability to orient in different situations, linguistic and stylistic framework of the discourse, structural and grammatical organization of the discourse) and indices have been determined; the discourse formation levels (high, satisfactory, average, low) in the domain of writing competence have been characterized.
