THE LOVE STORY

BY

ELI WHATLEY

INTRODUCTION

I’ve never been one for “Love Stories,” but this one touched me in a BIG way. It happened to a friend of mine and I’ll never forget the way that it changed him. For as long as I knew Sebastian he had always liked the women folk. He never, ever went through the cootie stage. I remember when he turned five years old that he bawled his eye’s out because he couldn’t marry a girl whom at the time was probably twelve. That was all he wanted. He changed though?somehow he changed. I will try to tell you his story the best that I can. Actually the story is about me, for I am that friend, Billy.

CHAPTER ONE

The day was beautiful, not a cloud in the sky. Just the kind of day that I had been waiting for. I walked across the courtyard trying to find her. My heart was racing about a hundred miles an hour. I kept on asking myself, “Do I have the guts?” Finally I saw her. The sunlight made her beautiful blonde hair look angelic. Her face was glowing and her lips as red as apples. I just wanted to go up to her and plant this big, wet, sloppy kiss on her that would make her forget her name. “I’ve got to do it,” I said to myself. I walked up to her, almost in slow motion. When I was about two feet away she turned around and look deep in to my eyes. It was like we were looking in past our eyes down to our soul. Finally, we stood face to face. We stared at each other for at least a good five minutes when we both went for each other’s lips. I closed my eyes. When I was a centimeter away from her luscious lips, I heard a voice scream.

“GET OFF OF ME!”

When I opened my eyes I found myself about to kiss my history teacher Mrs. Jenkins. I jumped up and took my seat. The class was laughing hysterically loud. My face was as red as the apple on Mrs. Jenkins desk. I felt myself sinking down into my chair like I would never crawl out of it. I thought to myself “I’ve got to quit day dreaming!” I was so relieved when the bell rang for lunch. I rushed outside as quick as I could.

I ran to my locker and tried to crawl in it. Just then my best friend Chris ran up to me laughing his head off.

“Hey Billy! I heard what you tried to do with Mrs. Jenkins. KISS, KISS, KISS.”

If it was anyone else, anyone, I would have hit him in that pretty little face of his, but since it was Chris I decided not to. Chris is a nice guy. I’ve known him since we were little. He is like a brother to me. Besides he is a lot stronger than I am and probably worked me over pretty good.

“Man Chris how did you find out so quick?”

It was kind of a stupid question. I mean when you go to school in a town called Cornville everything gets around. Most of us though, who went to school at Cornville High, didn’t live in Cornville, it was just a good school.

Chris was about to say something when his jaw dropped to the floor. It was like he saw an angel or something.

“Chris are you ok?” I asked.

“I can’t believe that it’s true. It’s impossible.”

“What’s impossible?”

“I heard there was a new girl on campus that was prettier than anything that you had ever seen in your life, and she’s coming this way.”

“Excuse me. I’m new here can you tell me where Mr. Cole’s class is?”

I turned around and there she was! She was tall and drop dead gorgeous. She had long brown hair and beautiful big brown eyes. Her smile was unlike anything that I had ever seen. She was so beautiful that I can’t describe her, it would do her injustice. My whole body went totally numb. I was so afraid to say anything because I would just drool all over her. Was I sweating? It took everything with in me to say anything.

“I? I? I think you’re hot! I? I? I mean. I think you’re not in the right hall. Actually, I know you’re not in the right hall. I have a class right next to his next. So why don’t I take you there? Huh, my names Billy, Billy Wilkins. What’s yours?”

“My names Cindy McNat. My family just moved here from Japan.”

Cool a foreign girl. Billy you dog! I started walking her to class. I turn around to look at Chris and he was still speechless. He was right though; she was the prettiest thing that I’ve ever seen.

CHAPTER TWO

We finally arrived at Mr. Cole’s class. Absolutely every guy in our school was just looking at her and myself. The guy’s were doing those little hand motions signaling how hot she was. I loved every minute of it! I don’t think that Cindy liked it though. So I got her in class as quick as I could.

“Why was everyone staring at me?” she asked.

I so much wanted to say, ’cause you’re hecka fine’, but my judgement was a little better than that. I said, “Well, you?re the new girl in town. Everyone is just trying to get used to you I guess. Besides, no one here in town is as pretty as you.”

Did I just say that? What was I thinking? I looked at her and she was taken back a little bit. I guess by that comment. Then she just looked at me and smiled.

“Thank you. That was sweet.”

Yes, it worked! I knew that it would work. Even her attitude is attractive. I’ve got to ask her out. Check this out.

“What are you doing this Saturday?”

“I don’t know. Why?”

“Well I thought that, maybe you would like a tour of the town by someone who knows it pretty well.”

“Yeah that would be great!”

“Pick you up at eight on Saturday?”

“Sure that would be great!”

“Great! Well I’ve got to get to class. Huh see you tomorrow?”

“Yeah!”

“Bye.”

“Good bye.”

I turned around and started to walk away. I had to turn around and look at her one more time. We both turned around and just smiled at each other and then I walked away. When I was out of her sight I let out this huge scream and just started jumpin. I went to my next two classes and all I could think about was Cindy.

When I got home the first thing I did was call Chris.

“Yo Chris, you’ll never guess what happened to me at school today. You remember Cindy, the new girl from school? We’re going out this Saturday!”

“You lie like a dog Billy.”

“No, man I’m serious!”

“I bet you were just dreaming again.”

“I thought that too. It feels like a dream but it ’s not. It was real man. She is like a dream though. Man I can’t explain it.”

“I understand. That’s kind of how I meet Charity.”

“Charity?”

“Yeah, she’s another new girl that I meet today. Hey not bad for the first day of our senior year huh?”

“You found someone today too. SWEET! Hey I just got a great idea! Why don’t you, Cindy, Charity, and myself all go out together on Saturday?”

“Hey that sounds great. Let me run that by Charity and I’ll tell you tomorrow on Friday. Is that cool.”

“Yeah it’s cool. See ya tomorrow.”

“See ya.”

“Bye.”

CHAPTER THREE

I went to bed that night but I couldn?t sleep. I was so afraid that if I went to sleep and woke up that none of this would have happened and this just would have been a cruel dream. Also, I was just to busy thinking about Cindy. I kept on thinking “Cindy Wilkins, has a nice ring to It.” but then I would just throw it out of my mind. It was too foolish. She didn’t have to change her last name if she didn’t want to. Come on, this is the nineties.

The next morning I woke up. I feel asleep! I thought that all that I went through was a dream. I got out of bed and did my normal routine. You know like taking a shower, brushing your teeth, doing your business, etc. The only difference today though was that I put on an extra amount of cologne on just in case I wasn’t dreaming all of yesterday. I had a little bit of time left so I decided to go out side and play with my dog. Actually, it was more like a wolf than a dog. Her name was Sheba. One of the prettiest dogs you’d ever see. She was a real chick magnet. She never failed me. She was a cool dog she was just a little rough.

After I was done playing with Sheba, and changing the clothes that she just messed up, I got in my truck. My truck was a pretty cool truck. It wasn’t the best looking truck, but it got me around pretty well. I was now running a little late so I stepped on the gas a little bit. I didn’t realize that I was exceeding the speed limit by, oh twenty miles an hour, until a cop pulled right behind me. I really didn’t need this today! I pulled over to the side of the road and just waited for the nice little policeman. The only problem was that he wasn’t too little. I’d say he was at least 6′6″ and 300 pounds. He slowly walked up too the truck, he had to cause he was just really fat. When he arrived at my window he was breathing pretty heavy. So I waited just a little bit before I asked him a question.

“Is there a problem officer?”

“Yeah,” said the policeman, “did you realize how fast you were going?”

I couldn’t help but laugh a little bit. You would expect a huge booming voice coming from a man of his size. Instead he sounded like he just sucked on a helium filled balloon.

“Do you know that right as we speak that there is a major drug ring going on right by my house?” I hoped this excuse would work. “I would be willing to let you know the address of this house if you would let me go.”

The officer thought about it for a little bit and said, “Okay, I’ll let you off. Where is this place?”

“2120 Elm Street in Uba City. It’s a pink house.”

“Thanks! This should give me the promotion that I need.”

IT WORKED! Poor guy though. I feel sorry for him when he finds out that it’s the police chief’s house. I don’t think that he’ll get his promotion.

CHAPTER FOUR

When I finally arrived at school, I was about a half-hour late. I decided it was pointless to go to my class so, I ditched it. As I was walking to my next class I meet Cindy in the hall. Then I totally knew that I didn’t dream it all. She was prettier than the day before. I couldn’t say that I liked her cause I just met her, but I felt so strongly for her that I knew that I would eventually like her. I didn’t know what to say to her. I was glad when she finally said something.

“Was it true that you tried to kiss Mrs. Jenkins yesterday?”

“I really hate this school! Yeah I guess you could say that. So how did you hear about it?”

“Well Chris thought that I would get a pretty good laugh from it.”

I’m going to kill Chris. I’m going to kill him!

“Well did you think it was funny?”

“Yeah, I thought it was really funny. Hey, I think that maybe you should take Mrs. Jenkin’s on the date on Saturday.”

“That’s not funny. Maybe you should go with her. You?re her type. Just joking. Did Chris talk to you about him coming with us on Saturday?”

“Yeah, I think it will be pretty cool. I have Charity in a couple of my classes and we get along pretty good. I would love to go with them.”

“Hey why don’t I walk you to your class.”

“Ok.”

I walked her to her class and opened the door for her and she went in. I almost was late to my next class but it was worth it. The classes went by really fast and the next thing I knew it was lunch. I met Chris, Charity, and Cindy out in the quad and ate lunch with them. The only person I talked to though was Cindy. I wanted to get to know her so bad. She was so sweet. Whenever she would laugh she got this pretty little smile on her face that would light up anyone’s day. Her face would light up in an indescribable way. She had to be an angel cause no one could be this perfect. Was she God’s gift to me? If she is then I don’t deserve such a gift.

THE ENDING

We went on our date and it was great! She had a great time and that was all that was important to me. Our senior year went by fast. Everyday I would walk Cindy to class. Everyday we ate lunch together. But I never had the guts to tell her how I felt about her. I never knew if she liked me or not until two months after graduation. Charity called me up to tell me that her and Chris were getting married. She also wanted to tell me that Cindy had finally gotten over me. Evidently she liked me from the beginning. She was always waiting for me to ask her out or tell her how I felt but I never did.

I never saw Cindy again, except for her Wedding. She found some one in college who almost was exactly like me. I missed out on the love of my life cause I was afraid of rejection. I guess what the moral of this story is to not miss your chance on love. Whoever said ‘it is better to have loved and lost, than not to love at all’ was a fool. Don’t let your opportunity pass you by and never love again.
